Types of paragraphs
- Paragraph - block sets the text to the left margin and keeps the right margin 'ragged'. This paragraph style is typically always used as the first paragraph after a heading, but often used as the default for business writing.
- Paragraph - first line indent sets the first line of text for the paragraph as indented and the rest of the text wraps around and extends back to the margin. Often this style is used in creative novels. A blank line is not required 'after' this style as the indent highlights the start of a new paragraph.
- Paragraph - hanging indent sets the first line of text against the left margin and indents all remaining lines of text. This style of paragraph is often used for reference lists and glossaries.
- Paragraph - long quote (or called an indented quote) has all text indented; thus is it=s a block paragraph but indented to highlight it as different because a quote is verbatim text from another author. This paragraph is often a smaller font size to furtehr make it stand out from the rest of the text.
- Numbered paragraph is typically used by legal writers. The numbering continues for every paragraph (but not for headings). This makes it easier for legal-eagle to cross-reference a specific paragraph when mentioning the document, say, in a letter.
