The style guide associated with your document has your formatting preferences preset. It's quick to apply the preset to your text.

Follow these steps:

  1. With your document open, enter the text for your image caption
  2. Double-click on the image title you wish to format
  3. Click the "Apply formatting" icon [¶ pilcrow]
  4. Click the icon for "Captions" [C]
  5. Select the caption type you require from the drop list
    • Chart, Exhibit, Figure, Media, Table
  6. Your text will automatically be updated to match your style guide
  7. Add your image
  8. Use the cross-reference icon under the "Annotations" menu to update your text with this new image caption

Types of captions

  • Chart: for example data represented in a pie or bar chart; or other data representation
  • Exhibit: for example photos
  • Figure: for example drawings you have created yourself or graphics made by others
  • Media: for example, videos, podcasts
  • Table: for example, spreadsheets with data

Tips:

  • Captions can be added without adding the image if it is not yet available
  • Changes to the present style guide wizard can be made while you are writing
  • Captions added using the image popup are 'captured' and will not be located against the left margin
  • The label for any caption can be customized (e.g., Case study, Example, Interview); however the list currently does not reflect any custom label (this is on our todo list)
